As a new college year begins, I would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone for their support during the previous one. Sometimes this support has been in the form of helping to run events, manning a stall at the Christmas Fair or selling drinks at a concert bar, but just as necessary are all the people who come along and take part, by forming quiz and murder mystery teams, or spending money at the Christmas Fair and Duck Race (which this year raised over £900 – thank you!). This is, after all, what we’re here for - raising money for the college but also having an enjoyable time.
The next big event for your diary is the Nostalgia Evening, on Trent Campus on October 18th. Tickets are available from the college offices, priced £5 each, so get out your winkle-pickers and knitted ties and dance the night away to the sounds of the 60s with the Four Aces!
After that we’ll be hoping for another successful Christmas Fair, to be held on Dove Campus on the evening of November 21st. Come along and grab a bargain on a stall, bid at the auction or have a go at a silly game – and there are always terrific prizes to be won in the Raffle!
This is my last contribution as Secretary to the PSFA. I will be officially retiring from the committee at the AGM, having served on it for ten years. Cheryll Tunnicliffe is also retiring, after serving for even longer. We have both decided, as our younger children move on to university, to leave the college in the safe and capable hands of the new committee. I wish them all the best for the future.
And speaking of the AGM……
If you’ve ever considered joining the PSFA but were too afraid to ask, come along to the AGM at 7pm on September 30th on Trent Campus, where you can find out what we get up to, with no obligation to join!

Another college year is nearly at an end, another successful year of fundraising through social events by the Parents, Staff and Friends Association (PSFA). We had an enjoyable Quiz Night on October, a very well attended Christmas Fair in November, a memorable Murder Mystery Evening in January and our annual Duck Race on the Brook in May. On several occasions in between the members of the committee have provided a useful service to the college at concerts by providing refreshments, often in the form of a licensed bar, sometimes with food included. These have been good nights out for everyone.
Events are already being planned for the Autumn, including a ‘Nostalgia Evening’ in October featuring music from the 1960s performed by a local band, and the Christmas Fair on November 21st.
The PSFA committee work hard, but enjoy themselves at the same time. If you have children who are students at the college, or who will be joining in September, why not consider joining the committee? Come and see us at the New Intake Meeting on July 15th or telephone our Chairman, Pat Thorpe, on 548801.

The Christmas Fair, held in November, was again hugely successful, raising over £2000. Many thanks to everyone who helped, either running a stall or supporting the event by coming along and spending money! We would also like to thank all the local businesses which supported us by advertising in the programme and donating so many wonderful prizes for us to raffle or auction.
Our other main fundraiser of the college year will be happening shortly. It’s the annual Duck Race, which takes place on the Brook on May 17th by kind permission of the Parish Council. Between heats of exciting races of (plastic) ducks, which begin at 1pm, there will be many stalls and games to keep you occupied. Hopefully the weather will be kind – we had a glorious day last year (between the downpours!).
Before that, on March 20th, the Dove Campus hall will be transformed by the addition of a catwalk when we host a fashion show featuring designer clothing from ‘Fatale’ of Tutbury. Tickets will be on sale soon from both College offices or from committee members.
