Pre-School sessions for children age 3+ are held at the infant site of John of Rolleston Primary School. Morning session 9.00-11.30, lunchtime session 11.30-12.30, afternoon session 12.45-3.15. Rolleston Playgroup - which was set up over 35 years ago - is organised by Pre-School and led by voluntary co-ordinators and members of the Pre-School committee, sessions are held at Rolleston Methodist Chapel Room. Age Guide, birth - three and a half years: Tues, Thurs & Fri 10.00am-11.30am. Sessions include creative & messy play activities which change weekly, free play, dressing up, a quiet corner with books and puzzles, baby area, music circle and songtime. A healthy snack and drink (milk always available) are included for the child and a hot drink for parents and carers. A great way to meet other mums! Winter 2011 News

Another busy period at Pre-School! We have seen friendships blossom in such a short space of time as the children have settled with ease over the last half term.

This is in part thanks to the response from our parents and children to activities and we thank you for all your hard work at home. Our shoebox project (which contained items about each individual child) has really supported their PSE development which has been our focus for this half term.

We have enjoyed the variety in weather, our Soccatots session on the 1st of October was surprisingly sunny and the families that attended had a great afternoon on the school fields. We looked at Autumn with the children and explored different vegetables and leaves. Harvest was discussed and we planted spring bulbs with the parks team which we can’t wait to see! Lots of cooking opportunities were had and the children sampled a variety of healthy snacks. Now we are back, we are looking at Autumn celebrations, and the build up to Christmas. We are starting to collect items for our shoe box appeal with Samaritan’s Purse, and will start packing them from the 14th November. This is a charity we have supported for many years and is a real opportunity to talk to the children about citizenship and sharing.

Halloween Disco
Another spooky success story this year with even more parents and children joining in the fun activities, disco, pumpkin carving competition and apple bobbing. A wonderful afternoon with some travelling from far and wide to attend as there was no such activity provided in their local area. More of the same next year!

Bong Soon – A Live & Local Play
On the afternoon of November 5th Pre-School presented this wonderful play at John of Rolleston. A story told with puppets, music, dance & storytelling. Refreshments were provided and a fun afternoon was had by all attending. Thank you to all involved.

Autumn 2011 News

How the last term has flown by! Pre-School and our Playgroups have been to Ashend Farm, our building is tidy and Open Day is upon us.

Every year we seem to pack more and more into the year. This last half term we have looked at homes together, created models, explored the village and looked at homes from around the world. We have learnt some Spanish words and watched our plants grow in the garden.

The older children have had lots of visits to big school, practiced school lunches, met their new teachers and are all so excited about the next step.
We finished the year with 70 children on our books- the highest ever. 41 leave us for big school, and we welcome another 25 families for September.
Also we have raised £500 in sponsor money from the obstacle course and this will go towards new construction equipment.

Things that stand out about this year are our family events, music week, book week, our Open Day and the sponsored obstacle course. It has been wonderful for us to share these things together so thank you for your support.

Have a wonderful summer together. Back at school on the 6th of September.

Fun Day July

Pre-School and it’s playgroups enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at the end of term with existing and new families alike in the grounds of the Scout HQ. Families enjoyed picnics, games and face painting whilst catching up with friends- and the rain almost held off too! Thank you to all involved.

Summer 2011 News

We would like to send a big thankyou to the village and the local community for your support with our Open Day in March. The sun shined for us and we had a truly great day and enjoyed meeting new families and friends old and new. Thanks again to all staff, committee and community members involved in this wonderful achievement. A special thank you to Patsy Starbuck for officially opening our new building and to all involved leading up to and on the big day.

Rollestonian of the Year Award
A special mention to our Pre-School committee members Sharon Harrison and Jane Hamnett. Their efforts were recognised by the wider community and they were both nominated for this year's "Rollestonian of the Year Award". Congratulations and a big thank you to you both for all your hard work on behalf of the Pre-School committee.

Special Thanks
Whilst we are on the subject of thank you’s we must thank John Morris for the grant for our new Hi -Vis jackets. These jackets are to be worn by Pre-School children and staff on local outings around the village and trips further afield. Each jacket is screen-printed with the Pre-School logo and help to keep all children safe and sound. Thanks also to John for obtaining a laptop for us.

Events
Chocolate Bingo
Much fun was had and chocolate consumed at our annual Chocolate Bingo event inApril. Thank you to all that came along, everyone that donated chocolate so that this event could go ahead and all that helped on the day.

Swap don’t Shop!
Many thanks to all involved in this event held in May. Many wardrobes were cleared as a result and the evening was enjoyed by all.

Carnival
Thankyou to all for creating such colourful and creative costumes for the Pre-School float and to all involved on behalf of Pre-School, the children had a lovely time.

Transport Festival
This event is a truly wonderful occasion for the local community, thanks to all involved.

Spring 2011 News

Welcome

We would like to send a big thankyou to the village for your support over the last year. We are now in our fantastic new building on School Lane and the children have settled in extremely well. It was well worth the wait and all the hard work.

We have had twelve new starters and it is lovely to meet new families and welcome back returning families. The children and staff alike love their new surroundings complete with modern facilities, new toys and activities. Thanks again to all staff, committee and community members involved in this wonderful achievement.

Forthcoming Events

Pancake Races
We will be taking part in the annual Pancake Races held on the Croft on Saturday 5th of March at 2pm. We will be racing with the children so please come along and support us! Afterwards we will be selling yummy fresh pancakes at Rolleston Club to raise funds and it would be great to see you there.
