Winter 2009 News
Welcome!
The new school year has seen many new and familiar faces, with children moving from Toddlers and In-Betweenies to join our Pre-School for the first time. All our new starters have settled in well and are having lots of fun making new friends.
The Pre-School held its AGM in October. Though some members of the Committee stepped down due to their children moving to “big school”, we were successful in attracting some new members who wish to become involved and support the charitable events throughout the school year. A very warm welcome and thanks to you all.
Christmas Events
December is one of the busiest times for Pre-School with lots of events to organise. The children have been busy packing shoe boxes full of gifts such as toiletries, stationery and small toys to be sent to children less fortunate than ourselves, as part of “Operation Christmas Child”.
We are delighted to welcome Derbyshire Police Male Voice Choir, who will be performing a Christmas Concert on Friday 4th December, 7.45pm at Rolleston Methodist Chapel. Tickets are £4 available from Pre-School, Starbucks or Sharon Harrison (01283 810321). Please try and join us for this wonderful start to the festive season. All proceeds are towards the Rolleston Pre-School New Build Appeal.
The Toddler Christmas Party will be held on Friday 11th December which will include snacks, entertainment and even a visit from Santa!
The Pre-School Nativity Play will be held in the Methodist Chapel on Thursday 17th December. All parents and carers are invited to come along and support their child in this special and touching event.
Fundraising
Rolleston Pre-School is a registered charity and relies on fundraising to continue its valued service to the community. One way you can support us this Christmas is from the comfort of your own armchair! If you ever shop online, please register with -
www.easyfundraising.org.uk/rollestonpreschool.
Using this free link whenever you shop ensures your chosen retailer donates a percentage of your spend to the Pre-School. What better excuse to shop ‘til you drop!
Many thanks to everyone who has supported us by donating unwanted clothes or shoes to our recycling bank at the Spread Eagle Car Park. This scheme is proving very popular and is raising around £60 a month towards Pre-School funds. Please continue to donate over the Christmas period and beyond!
Our mobile phone recycling box will also remain in Starbucks for all of your unwanted old phones. Please remember us if you upgrade your phone this Christmas.
Thank you to everyone who helped and attended our recent Autumn events. The Sainsburys bag packing morning raised £277, whilst the scary Halloween Family Disco raised £299. Thanks!
On behalf of Rolleston Pre-School staff and Committee Members, we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
P.S. As part of our New Build Appeal, we have “Save our Pre-School” petitions sited at venues throughout the village. Please show your support and add your signature.
Autumn 2009 News
Pre School
The Summer term was, as always, a very busy time for all.
Our leavers enjoyed the trip to Ash End House Children’s Farm and all of the children thoroughly enjoyed their Fun Day, at the end of July. Despite the changeable weather the children enjoyed a picnic, fun and games and a visit from a fire crew.
Thank you to everyone collecting the promotional tokens throughout the year. We have been fortunate enough to raise over 3500 tokens for both Tesco's and Sainsbury's schemes. These will be used on new equipment for the Pre-School. Our mobile phone collection is also proving very successful and will continue as an ongoing scheme. Boxes are sited at Pre-School and Starbucks - thanks!
We are delighted with the response in donations to our Clothing and Shoe Bank, located in the car park of the Spread Eagle pub. Many thanks to everyone who has donated to this scheme. If you have any unwanted shoes or clothes, in any condition, please put them into this recycling bank. For every tonne collected, a large donation is made towards Pre-School funds.
A vacancy has arisen for the position of Pre-School Cleaner. One hour every week day during term time, between 6-8am or 3.30-6pm. Please contact Sharon Harrison for further details, 01283 810321.
As the new school year starts, special thanks go to our retiring Committee Members who have worked extremely hard to support Pre-School during their terms of office. We are looking for new members to join the Committee. If you would like to join us or learn more about what we do, please contact Pre-School Manager Lolene Poxon on 01283 239209.

Toddler Sessions
The Toddler sessions continue to be very successful and well attended. The children have great fun taking part in craft activities and playing with the prechool toys. It is also a great chance for the parents/carers to meet and chat.
We say goodbye to some of our Toddlers who will have moved up to our ‘In-Betweenies’ Sessions and a big welcome to our new arrivals.
In-betweenies
A big welcome to our ‘In-Betweenies’ who have now moved up to Pre-School. We hope you have enjoyed our sessions as much as we have.
The ‘In-Betweenies’ session is devised to bridge the gap a year prior to commencing Pre-School and is therefore, aimed at children aged 2½ years and is more structured than the Toddler sessions. Each week the children have great fun making things, getting messy, singing, cooking and reading.
All carers and toddlers are welcome to come along for a free session before registering. To register your child at any of the following sessions, including the In-Betweenies, contact Sharon Harrison on 01283 810321.

Summer 2009 News
The sun is here and, as ever, Rolleston Pre-School has been buzzing with activity. We sprang into action with the annual Pancake Races in February. The children competed in several teams and enjoyed practising their pancake skills! St Mary's Church generously donated all proceeds from the event to the Pre-School, for which we are extremely grateful.
The ever-popular Chocolate Bingo took place in March which was enormous fun, and tasty too! We also held a Fashion Show, where discounted high street brands were modelled by our very own fashionistas. It was a very popular night and we hope to hold another show next year.
The children had a fun-packed May as they took part in our Open Day, where they completed sponsored assault courses. Many thanks to everyone who supported our events.
Forthcoming Events
The annual ‘Community Day’ takes place on 6th June at John of Rolleston School. Please visit our stand where we will have lots of fun and games for the children.
Pre-School children will be visiting Ash End House Children’s Farm in July for their Leaver's Trip. There will also be a Fun Day on 16th July at the Rolleston Scout Headquarters. Feel free to bring a picnic and join us. Best wishes are sent to all of the children leaving us to start “Big School”. We hope you settle in well and enjoy the new activities that await you.
An exciting event for us adults will be a toe-tapping Ceilidh on 11th July. The night will be swinging with live music from acclaimed folk band Kelly's Heroes. Their fantastic caller will ensure everyone is on their feet. With a licensed bar and a raffle with amazing prizes, it's going to be a night not to be missed! Tickets on sale soon.
Fundraising
A new fundraising initiative from the Pre-School is the Clothing Bank situated in the Spread Eagle car park. Please donate any unwanted clothes, in any condition, to our clothing bank. We receive a large sum for every ton of clothes collected. What better excuse to clear out your wardrobe!
Many thanks to everyone who has donated their old mobile phones to our mobile collection appeal. The money raised so far has been put towards our New Build fund. This is an ongoing programme, so please keep reminding friends and family to donate their unwanted phones to the collection boxes at Pre-School and Starbucks.
In-Betweenies
‘In-Betweenies’ toddler group is aimed at children from the age of 2½, and bridges the gap before they go onto Pre-School. The sessions are run during term-time, Thursdays at 10-11.30am, and include various activities, including story-time, messy play, dressing up, cooking, action songs and rhymes. To register your child for ‘In-Betweenies’ please contact Sharon Harrison on 01283 810321.
If you would like further information about any aspect of Pre-School please contact Lolene Poxon on 01283 239209 or visit our website www.rollestonpreschool.co.uk.

Spring 2009 News
A great finish to 2008!
Though spring is just around the corner, we’d love to update you on the busy Christmas celebrations Pre-School enjoyed last term.
The children of Pre-School, Toddlers and In-betweenies really loved decorating Christmas Trees and Wreaths for display in St Mary’s Church for the 2008 celebration. Hopefully you will have been able to attend this wonderful event and saw the beautiful decorations the children and other village organisations created.
We also held pre-Christmas events including our Nativity which was very well supported and entertaining. The children put on a great performance, with help from all the staff. At the Christmas Party the children were entertained by Jo Jingles, had party food and – if proof were ever needed that our children are very good boys and girls – enjoyed a visit from Santa himself!
Forthcoming Events
Our ever-popular Chocolate Bingo will be held on Saturday 4th April, 2-4pm. Chocolate Bingo is great fun for all the family with a variety of children’s bingo games and a few adult games thrown in too. There are always lots of yummy prizes. Please come along and join us. Any donations of chocolate for the bingo prizes would be gratefully received.
For all those shopaholics amongst you, please join us for a great night on 13th March, 7.30pm at our “SOS Fashion Show”. The show will feature 10 high street labels including Next, Gap, M&S, and Evans, which you can then buy for less than half price! With a licensed bar and fantastic cheap fashion featured by our very own models, it’s going to be a great night. Tickets for the above events are available from Pre-School.
Fundraising
In addition to all of the fantastic events throughout the year, Rolleston
Pre-School are also running a number of fundraising schemes. Rolleston
Pre-School is a registered charity and receives no government funding.
Later in the year we will be officially launching our New Build Appeal to raise
funds to replace the Pre-School building. Fundraising for this urgent cause is
already underway, but we have lots more to do, which can only be achieved with
the support of the local community. Please support us however you can.
Derby County Tickets!
We are thrilled to announce that Derby County Football Club has become an official sponsor of Rolleston Pre-School. DCFC will donate £5 to our Pre-School for every ticket sale made through us. If you want to take advantage of this superb offer, for matches vs Swansea City on 3rd March or Burnley on 4th April, please call 01332 821072 and quote “Rolleston” or alternatively email tickets@dcfc.co.uk. Tickets cost £18 adults and £8 concessions.
Mobile Phones
We are now collecting old mobile phones to raise funds. Please donate any unused phones you may have – working or broken – to the Pre-School. Collection boxes are sited at the Pre-School and Starbucks. Thank you for your continuing support.
If you wish to register your child for Pre-School or have any queries, please contact Lolene Poxon, Pre-School Manager on 01283 239209.
