Pre-School sessions for children age 3+ are held at the infant site of John of Rolleston Primary School. Morning session 9.00-11.30, lunchtime session 11.30-12.30, afternoon session 12.45-3.15. Rolleston Toddler Group runs several sessions for younger children held in the Methodist Chapel. “In-Betweenies” (bridging the gap between Toddlers and Pre-School), caters for children from the age of 2½, costs £2.50 per session (Thursday 10am until 11.30am). Toddlers have a session on Tuesday and Friday 10am until 11.30am in the Chapel Room. There is a charge, which includes refreshments, of £1.50 per child and 50p for each extra child.

Rolleston Pre-School

Welcome!

The new school year has seen many new and familiar faces, with children moving from Toddlers and In-Betweenies to join our Pre-School for the first time. All our new starters have settled in well and are having lots of fun making new friends.

The Pre-School held its AGM in October. Though some members of the Committee stepped down due to their children moving to “big school”, we were successful in attracting some new members who wish to become involved and support the charitable events throughout the school year. A very warm welcome and thanks to you all. In particular, we welcome our new Chairperson, Sharon Harrison, who is already working hard to continue the high standard of service that the Pre-School offers.

Christmas Events

December is one of the busiest times for Pre-School with lots of events to organise. The Toddler Christmas Party will be held on Wednesday 10th December and the Pre-School Christmas Party on Monday 15th December, which will include snacks, entertainment and even a visit from Santa!

The Pre-School Nativity Play will be held in the Methodist Chapel on Thursday 18th December. All parents and carers are invited to come along and support their child in this special and touching event.

Fundraising

Rolleston Pre-School is a registered charity and relies on fundraising to continue its valued service to the community. One way that you can support us this Christmas is from the comfort of your own armchair! If you ever shop online, please register with www.easyfundraising.org.uk/rollestonpreschool. Indeed, now more than ever, we will need continuing support from parents, carers and the wider village community to ensure the future of Rolleston Pre-School.

As you may be aware, our Pre-School building is rapidly aproaching the end of its life as an appropriate, modern & functional building for us to use. We have been fortunate to be able to rent the building from John of Rolleston Primary School. However, the Primary School & the Local Education Authority will not replace it for us, nor is there the funding from them to implement the improvements that are required.

Early in the New Year, we will be launching an Appeal to raise funds to replace the Pre-School building. We will not be able to succeed without your help. We will therefore be appealing for your support & input, so please do think about responding to our requests for help early next year!

Summer 2008 News

Rolleston Pre-School

The Summer term was, as always, a very busy time for all.

Our leavers enjoyed the trip to Ash End House Children’s Farm and all of the children thoroughly enjoyed their Fun Day, at the end of July. Despite the changeable weather, the children enjoyed a picnic, balloon modelling, fun and games and a visit from a fire engine.

Thank you to everyone for collecting the promotional tokens throughout the year. We have been fortunate enough to order numerous pieces of outside play equipment through the ‘Sainsbury’s Active Kids’ campaign, a new digital camera from Tesco's and some books from Nestle.

Auction Of Promises

Saturday 8th November, Doors, 7.30pm – Start, 8.00pm prompt

This autumn we are once again holding the ‘Auction of Promises’ fundraising event. In the past this has proved to be an extremely popular event To make this evening a success we need pledges or promises that can be auctioned on the night. Promises range from anything from an item to a service or special skill, e.g a night of free babysitting, a morning of help with DIY or a days gardening. If you think you could donate a promise for the auction, please contact Sharon Harrison on 810321. Tickets from September at Pre-School or committee members

Please put the date in your diary and make sure you and your family and friends come along and support the event. Tickets will be on sale late Sept at Pre-School.

All the help and dedication from our Committee Members has been greatly appreciated. Special thanks go to our retiring Committee Members who have worked extremely hard to support Pre-School during their terms of office. Toddler Sessions

The Toddler sessions continue to be very successful and well attended. The children have great fun taking part in craft activities and playing with the pre school toys. It is also a great chance for the parents/carers to meet and chat.

We say goodbye to some of our Toddlers who will have moved up to our ‘In-Betweenies’ Sessions and a big welcome to our new arrivals.

In-Betweenies

A big welcome to our ‘In-Betweenies’ who have now moved up to Pre-School. We hope you have enjoyed our sessions as much as we have.

The ‘In-Betweenies’ session is devised to bridge the gap a year prior to commencing Pre-School and is therefore, aimed at children aged 2½ years and is more structured than the Toddler sessions. Each week the children have great fun making things, getting messy, singing, cooking and reading.

All carers and toddlers are welcome to come along for a free session before registering. To register your child at any of the following sessions, including the In-Betweenies, contact Sharon Harrison on 810321.

Summer 2008 News

Rolleston Pre-School

Springtime is here and as ever Rolleston Pre-School has been buzzing with fundraising activities. We sprung into action with the annual Pancake Races in February which this year raised over £120 which was shared with St Mary’s Church. The ever popular Chocolate Bingo took place in March and raised over £310 which went towards Pre-school funds. At the beginning of April we held a ‘Ladies Night’ which was very popular and raised approx £300. Thanks to everyone that supported these events and made them a success. The children had a fun-packed week in May as they took part in our annual sponsored bounce.

The annual ‘Community Day’ takes place on Saturday 7th June at the John of Rolleston School, Alderbrook Site and once again we will be supporting this community event. Please come along and visit us on our stand where we will have lots of fun and games for the children to take part in.

The Pre-School children will be visiting Ash End House Children’s Farm on 14th July for their Leavers Trip. There will also be a Pre-School Fun Day taking place on 17th July at the Rolleston Scout Headquarters, Station Road. We have organised lots of activities, including a bouncy castle, hook a duck, face painting, races and even balloon modelling by Geoffrey Jumper. Please feel free to bring a picnic and join us.

As another Pre-School year comes to a close, good luck wishes are sent to all of the children leaving us to start their school life in Reception. We hope you settle in well, make lots of friends and enjoy all the new activities that await you.

Sadly we have to say goodbye to Becky Jarvis-Cooke the Chairperson of the Pre-School Committee. We would like to thank Becky for all of her hard work over the past year and wish her good luck for the future.

As we have some committee members that will be leaving at the end of the summer term, there will be a number of vacant positions on the Pre-School Committee. We would like to encourage parents, who have an interest in the welfare of the Pre-School, to join our Committee and support our fundraising initiatives. It is a great way to meet other parents and make new friends as well as supporting Pre-School.

Rolleston Pre-School

Happy New Year!

The children were very busy again in the run up to Christmas. The children of Pre-School, Toddlers and In-betweenies really enjoyed themselves when they decorated large angels for display in St Marys Church ‘Angels For Advent’ celebration. Each group of children decorated an angel and the pre school children went to see their work on display in the church in December. Hopefully you will have been fortunate to attend this wonderful event and see the beautiful angels the children created.

We also held the usual pre-Christmas events including the Nativity which was very well supported and very entertaining with the children putting on a great performance with help from all the staff. At the Christmas Party the children were entertained by Tracey from ‘Music Time’, had party food and ended with a visit from Santa.

By the time you read this we will have held our Annual Pancake Races in conjuction with St Mary’s Church. This event is always well attended and the pre-school children always enjoy taking part in the races, held on the Croft. Thanks to everyone involved.

Our ever popular annual Chocolate Bingo will be held on the Saturday 8th March 1.30 – 3.00pm. Chocolate Bingo is great fun for all the family with a variety of children’s bingo games and a few adult games thrown in as well. There are always lots of prizes and lots of winners so look out for the posters and come along and join us. Any donations of chocolate for the bingo prizes would be gratefully received. Toddlers

The Toddlers and In-Betweenies Christmas party was held at the Scout Headquarters, the children had a great time and were entertained very musically and noisily by Jo Jingles. Santa also paid the children a visit and delivered a present to all the children.

There have been a few changes to the staff of the Toddler section of Pre-School. Fiona Laughton who has been Toddler Liason Officer for a number of years has retired from the position. Thanks to Fiona for all her hard work and welcome to Sharon Harrison who has taken over this role. Toddlers also said goodbye to Rachel Reilly and Justine Holroyd who had run the very busy Tuesday toddlers session last term. We would like to thank them both and welcome Jane Woodward and Andrea Hodson our new Tuesday session co-ordinators.
