Winter 2007 News
Rolleston Pre-School
The new school year has seen many new and familiar faces, with children coming up through Toddlers and In-Betweenies and joining our Pre-School for the first time. All our new starters have settled in well and are having lots of fun and are making new friends.
The Pre-School held its AGM in October and although some members of the Committee stepped down due to their children moving on, we were successful in attracting new members who wish to become involved and support the charitable events throughout the school year. Welcome and thanks to you all.
In October we held our first fundraising event of the school year, the annual Halloween Disco. The turn out was fantastic and the children all had a great time dancing and enjoying many activities including having their face painted and a spooky lucky dip. All of the children looked great in their scary fancy dress outfits!
December is one of the busiest times for Pre-School with lots of events to organise. The Pre-School Christmas Party will be taking place on Tuesday 18th December, which will include snacks, entertainment provided by ‘Music Time’ and a visit from Santa.
The Pre-School Nativity Play will be held in the Methodist Chapel on Wednesday 19th December, and all parents and carers are invited to come along and support their child in this special and touching event. Light refreshments will be available and there will be a raffle for the adults and a lucky dip for the children.
We would like to remind you of the ‘Amazon’ link on the Pre-School website www.rollestonpreschool.co.uk. Why not purchase your Christmas presents from Amazon? For every purchase that is made, we receive a donation of 10% of the total order value, which will enable us to purchase more books and toys for the children. Please let your friends and family know.
If you would like to register your child for pre-school or have any queries regarding sessions, please contact Pre-School Manager Lolene Poxon on 01283 239209.
Toddlers
The Toddler Sessions continue to be popular with an increasing number of children joining us. In-Betweenies
The Thursday morning ‘In-Betweenies’ toddler group for our older Toddlers is still very popular. The session is more structured and includes various activities, including story-time, messy play, dressing up, cooking, action songs and rhymes.
All carers and toddlers are welcome to come along for a free session before registering for either Toddlers or In-Betweenies. To register your child at any of the following sessions, contact Fiona Laughton on 01283 509022 .

Autumn 2007 News
Rolleston Pre-School
The Summer term was, as always, a very busy time for all, but most enjoyable, with good weather for most of our events. The Annual Community Day was a great success and our stalls raised more funds for equipment for the Pre-School.
Our leavers enjoyed the trip to Ash End House Children’s Farm and all of the children thoroughly enjoyed their Fun Day at the end of July. The children enjoyed a picnic, balloon modelling, various fun and games and a visit from a fire engine.
Thank you to everyone for collecting the promotional tokens throughout the year. We have been fortunate enough to order numerous pieces of outside play equipment through the ‘Sainsbury’s Active Kids’ campaign, computer equipment from Tesco's and some books from Nestle.
All the help and dedication from our Committee Members has been greatly appreciated. Special thanks go to our retiring Committee Members who have worked extremely hard to support Pre-School during their terms of office. We are looking for new members to join the Committee, so if you would like to join us or find a little more about what we do, please contact Acting Pre-School Manager Kim Owen on 01283 239209 or any existing committee member.
If you would like to register your child or have any queries regarding sessions, please contact Kim Owen at Pre-School on 01283 239209.
Rolleston Toddlers
The Toddler sessions continue to be very successful and well attended. The children have great fun taking part in craft activities and playing with the pre school toys. It is also a great chance for the parents/carers to meet and chat.
We say goodbye to some of our Toddlers who will have moved up to our ‘In-Betweenies’ Sessions and a big welcome to our new arrivals.
Rolleston In-Betweenies
A big welcome to our ‘In-Betweenies’ who have now moved up to Pre-School. We hope you have enjoyed our sessions as much as we have.
The ‘In-Betweenies’ session is devised to bridge the gap a year prior to commencing Pre-School and is therefore, aimed at children aged 2½ years and is more structured than the Toddler sessions. Each week the children have great fun making things, getting messy, singing, cooking and reading. Anyone wishing to register their child should contact Mandy Hutson on 01283 814061.
All carers and toddlers are welcome to come along for a free session before registering. To register your child at any of the following sessions, including the In-Betweenies, contact Fiona Laughton on 01283 509022.

Springtime is here and as ever Rolleston Pre-School has been buzzing with fundraising activities. We sprung into action with the annual Pancake Races in February which this year raised over £120 which was shared with St Marys Church. The ever popular Chocolate Bingo took place in March and raised over £330 which went towards Pre-school funds. The children had a fun-packed week in May as they took part in our annual sponsored bounce. We also hope you caught sight of our very colourful float at the village scout Carnival. Thanks go to all those who volunteered to help and take part in all of our events.
The annual Community Day takes place on Saturday 9th June at the John of Rolleston School, Alderbrook Site and once again we will be supporting this community event. Please come along and visit us on our stand.

There will also be a Pre-School Fun Day taking place on 19th July at the Rolleston Scout Headquarters. Good Luck is also wished to all our new Pre-Schoolers who will be starting in September. We hope you settle in well, make lots of friends and enjoy all the new activities that await you.

Spring 2007 News
Rolleston Pre-School
The run up to Christmas is always a bit hectic at Pre School but probably never more so than this year. The children got involved in Operation Christmas Child which involved them packing 28 shoe boxes with toys and gifts including essential items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste. The children also included a teddy bear in each box which they had kissed to send their love to children much less fortunate than themselves. We also held the usual pre-Christmas events including the Nativity which was very entertaining with the children putting on a great performance with a bit of help from all the staff. The Christmas party was enjoyed by all and ended with a visit from Santa.
As mentioned in the last Rollestonian, Janet Wood left Pre-School at the end of the year to take up her new role as an early years’ advisor. The staff arranged a couple of surprises for Janet during her last week. The Pre-School children joined the children and staff at the John of Rolleston Primary School Sherborne site and performed a special assembly including a song written especially for Mrs Wood. Thankyou to the school staff for helping put this little production together. Past and present staff, colleagues, committee members and friends also arranged a special farewell party for Janet so we could all say our goodbyes.
The start of the new year brought a number of changes to Pre School. We have recruited a new member of staff, Lolene Poxon joins us as a Pre School assistant. Lolene is settling in well and getting to know the children and the setting. Mrs Owen continues to act as Pre School Manager for the time being.
We also have a change on the committee side, Rebecca Carlton who held the chair position during the Autumn term, has decided that due to work and time constraints she cannot continue to work for Pre-School. I would like to thank Becky for the time and effort she has put into Pre-School over the last few years. Vice-chair Jo Lumby will be acting as chair until we are able to elect a new chairperson.
Our ever popular annual Chocolate Bingo will be held on the 10th March 1.30 – 3.00pm at the Alderbrook Site. Admission for this year’s Bingo will by ticket due to the ever increasing numbers that attend this event. Please see our posters to find out more details of how to obtain your tickets. Chocolate Bingo is great fun for all the family with a variety of children’s bingo games and a few adult games thrown in as well. There are always lots of prizes and lots of winners so look out for the posters and come along and join us. Any donations of chocolate for the bingo prizes would be gratefully received.
We are also hoping to hold a Toy Sale during the Spring term, so please look out for the posters and come along to grab a bargain or why not book a table to sell all of your excess toys post-Christmas!
If you would like to register your child for Pre-School or have any queries regarding sessions please contact Kim Owen at Pre-School on 01283 239209.
Toddlers
The Toddlers and In-Betweenies Christmas party was held at the Scout Headquarters, the children had a great time and were entertained very musically and noisily by Jo Jingles. Santa also paid the children a visit and delivered a present to all the children.
Toddlers also said goodbye to Tracy Salmon who had run the very busy Tuesday toddlers session for some time. We would like to thank Tracy for everything she has done for Toddlers. We would like to welcome Rachel Reilly our new Tuesday session co-ordinator.
Toddler sessions now run on Tuesday and Friday mornings 10.00am – 11.30am in the Chapel Room. If you and your child would like to join in the fun or you would like more information please contact Fiona Laughton, Toddler Liaison Officer, on 01283 509022.
In-Betweenies
Our Thursday morning (10.00am – 11.30am) In-Betweenies sessions continue to be popular with lots of craft activities, music and themed play. If you would like to find out more about these more structured Toddler sessions for the over 2 year olds or would like to register your child to start in September please contact Mandy Hutson on 01283 814061.
