Pre-School sessions are held at the infant site of John of Rolleston Primary School from 9.00am – 11.30am, with afternoon sessions commencing 12.45pm – 3.00pm. Further details from Janet Wood (Manager) or Kim Owen at Pre-School on 239209. 

Parent and Toddler sessions are held in the Methodist Chapel Room on Tuesdays and Thursdays 1.30-3.00pm. ‘In-Betweenies’ session (for children aged 2 1/2 years and over) starting in 2005 on a Thursday morning (intended to bridge the gap between Toddlers and Pre-School). If you would like further information about Toddlers or to register your child for ‘The In-Betweenies’ please contact Louise Arnold, Toddler Liaison Officer, on 815440.

Winter 2004 News

Rolleston Pre-School

The beginning of the academic year began with our A.G.M. We were very encouraged to see so many parents attend the meeting and volunteer to join us on the committee. We have elected some new officers and said farewell to members who have contributed enormously to Pre-School. In particular the present committee would like to say thank you to Helen Hunt who retired after serving four years on the committee, including two years as Chairperson.

We have also said goodbye to a member of staff; Andrea Dancer left us at then end on half term to begin her training with the Police Force. We wish her well and would like to thank her for her commitment and enthusiasm, she will be greatly missed.

Our fund-raising efforts have already begun. On 22nd October Tempest Photographers visited the Chapel Rooms and a number of families attended. We are currently organising our annual Toy Sale, to be held on 13th November, 10am – 12pm. We hope to repeat the success of last year’s sale, when we sold all of our table space and raised £136. Don’t forget we hold the sale every year, so if you missed it make a date in your diary ready for next year. We will be holding our popular Chocolate Bingo next term, watch out for our posters detailing the date and time.

We are now preparing for the busiest time of year at Pre-School, with numerous events planned for Christmas. Our celebrations begin with the Nativity in the Chapel on 14th December at 2pm and the term will end with the Christmas party and a visit from Santa on 22nd December.

Rolleston Toddlers

We are pleased to report that Rolleston Toddler Group is growing in popularity. We have welcomed many new children and their parents, grandparents and childminders over the past year. Our two sessions on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, 1.30pm-3pm are very busy; the children particularly enjoy the recently introduced craft activities. Our sessions cost £1.50 per child (50p per extra child) and include refreshments, please come along and join us. 

From next term we will be introducing a new session on a Thursday morning. This session will cater for children aged 2 1/2 years and over. It will be more structured than the existing Toddler Sessions and will include lots of exciting activities, e.g. story time, messy play, dressing up, cooking, action songs and rhymes. The new session is called the ‘In-Betweenies’ and is intended to bridge the gap between Toddlers and Pre-School. It will be run by a member of the Pre-School team and cost £2.50 per session.

Spring 2004 News

On behalf of everyone at Pre School may we wish you all the best for 2004. Looking back to the Autumn term of 2003 we would like to thank you for the great support at our Toy Sale in November where we raised £136.50. The Pre School Nativity was also a great success, the children put on a wonderful performance and we raised a fabulous £80 – thank you to all the parents who generously donated the raffle prizes. Santa’s visits to the Toddlers and the Pre School Christmas parties rounded off the Autumn term perfectly!

We hope we can rely on your continued support during this year’s fund raising events. The Pre School committee are providing refreshments again at the Pancake Races on Saturday 28th February at 2pm. Coming soon to the Chapel Room is the Tempest Photographer on Tuesday 9th March from 2 – 4:30pm.

The Parent’s Evening is to be held on Thursday 11th March from 7 – 9pm, more details will come via Pre-School.

Also as promised in the previous issue of the Rollestonian the Chocolate Bingo is taking place on Saturday 13th March, 2-4pm at the Alderbrook Site of John of Rolleston. Any donations of chocolate will be gratefully received!

Can anyone help us? Last year the children at Pre School were unable to take part in the Rolleston Carnival, this was because we were unable to get a lorry to transform into our float. Can you help avoid such disappointment this year, if so please contact PreSchool.
