Rolleston History Group

The History Boys and Girl are a small informal group of residents interested in the history and natural history of the village and surrounding area. This is in the broadest sense from archaeology, through families, buildings, sport, entertainment and transport to trees and wildlife.

Our aim is to share this interest periodically with the village through e.g. annual “History Days”, the recent WWI evening and the Local Map Exhibition. Proceeds from these events go to maintaining St Mary’s Church building or other village charities. We welcome any one who would be willing to make a contribution to one of our events. You do not have to be an expert or a trained speaker but just someone who is willing to share that extra bit of interest and knowledge with the village. If you would like to help make these events a continuing success please contact Tom Martin (813320) or Arnold Burston (813457).

WWI Commemoratives

We know from records that the village schoolchildren were presented with celebration mugs and medals at the end of the war. Do any still exist in the village? Michael Wardell (812565) would be pleased to photograph them if you can help him in his project of recording the effects of the war in the village.

History Day 2017

We are planning another History Day on Saturday 18th November with lots of new material. Please put this date in your diary. Full details in the next issue of Rollestonian.
