Rolleston Open Gardens Sunday 2003
Sunday 22 June
On one of the hottest days of the year so far large crowds flocked to enjoy Gardens Sunday. Parking was at a premium - especially in the centre of the village (with drivers having to contend with workmen painting double yellow road markings!).
Fourteen very diverse gardens were open, some well-established and some recently designed, some traditional and some more modern, but all beautifully kept and obviously well loved. The event raised over £3,500 for Church funds, including programme sales, a plant stall, refreshments and a cake stall, a raffle, a book stall, strawberries and cream, a "little weed" competition, and a donation from the Rolleston Gallery, who held an exhibition in the Old Grammar School.
Each garden had a named "little weed" hidden somewhere, and children had to find it and write its name by the number of the garden. The under 8 winner was Fiona Valentine, and the 8 - 11 winner was Sarah Knight. The first of the 44 raffle prizes was won by Mr. Ron Price. A few photos of the event can be seen below.
A big thank you to those willing to show off their handiwork, the organisers, the musicians in church, helpers and the public for supporting this event.
Next year’s Gardens Sunday will be on July 18th. If you enjoy your garden and would be willing to share it with others, please let (Tel:813320) know, your offers or enquiries would be very welcome.
