Newsletter - Winter 2004
The start of a new academic year is with us again, bringing with it a new intake of reception children and their parents that will benefit from the activities organised by FOJORPS. We say hello to a new committee with both new and old faces. We also see a change in our Chair and Vice-Chair. After several years as Chair, Caroline Mills has decided to move aside and take up the Vice-Chair position, leaving Sarah Abel to take up the Chair. Many thanks to Caroline for all her energy and motivation during her term as Chair, and for her continued support as Vice-Chair over the coming year. Thanks also to Sarah for agreeing to move into the role of Chair.
Already since the start of term, we have held several successful events, including a Walking Treasure Hunt, Children’s Discos for Infants and Juniors, and our regular Quiz Night, as usual well supported from the school and village. Thank you to all who have taken part in these events, either as helpers or participants.
Christmas is fast approaching and we have decided to try something different this year. On Friday 10th December the Alderbrook Site will play host to our Christmas Bazaar. There will be various activities and stalls for adults and children; Father Christmas might even make an appearance! Hot refreshments and drinks will also be available. On the same evening we will draw the Christmas Raffle. Prizes include TV / DVD combi unit, Food Hamper, Wine Hamper, Spirit Hamper and various others. Raffle tickets will be available through November and early December through school or committee members, and of course at the Christmas Bazaar.

Newsletter - Autumn 2004
Another school year draws to an end, and once again FOJORPS has had a very successful year, being in the position to donate a fantastic £11,000 to the school over the course of the year. As usual Community Day played a large part in this – for the second year running, we broke the £5,000 barrier – many thanks to all those who supported both on the day and behind the scenes.
As well as the usual expenses that FOJORPS supports for the school like Christmas Parties, Pupils Insurance, Leavers gifts, various theatre visits etc. we have provided funding for some more specific items this year. These include playground road markings for the infants’ site, CD player and French Books that Year 6 pupils will use, digital camera and various subject specific resources for History, R.E., Music, Sports, Geography and Literacy.
We have also been successful with an Awards for All grant from the National Lottery. This has been used to provide sun shelters and a ‘playground train’ on the infants site, and several water fountains through the school. These things have made the Summer (what summer!) period much better with shade and water facilities available for the children.
I hope you recognised the HMS John of Rolleston floating in the brook on RODSEC day. Lots of people recognised Mr Arblaster and Mrs Mills in their official regalia depicting the School magnificently!
The date has now been fixed for the AGM – Monday 11th October at 7.30pm on the Sherborne Site at which the new committee will be elected. If you think you can contribute, either as a committee member, helper, or just to provide your support, you are very welcome to come along. We are still looking for somebody who would be prepared to audit our accounts – if you can help, please make contact either through one of the committee members, or through the school office.
Dates for your diary……….

Saturday 2nd October - Dove Valley Football (hopefully to include Table Top Sale)
Saturday 9th October - Children’s Disco
Saturday 16th October - Quiz Night

Newsletter - Summer 2004
Community Day preparations for Saturday 12th June are now well in hand, and we are looking forward to good weather and good support for the event. As usual, there will be a Summer Draw prize raffle, for which tickets are now available. We currently have over 25 prizes to draw at about 3.30pm on Community Day. Most of the usual attractions will be there, plus some new ones. Come along, see what’s going on, and spend some money! We are grateful to the village for its continual support and generosity, and look forward to the Alderbrook Site being invaded for the day. Gates open at 11.30am, and activities will continue until about 4.00pm.
FOJORPS is delighted to be invited to RODSEC’s Traditional Events Day on Saturday July 3rd, providing hot food on our ‘traditional’ gas barbeque! We will be launching the HMS John of Rolleston as part of the brook flotilla, and look forward to seeing all the May Poles that have been made by the children from the school and village for the competition.
This year, John of Rolleston Primary School is hosting the Dove Valley Sports events where a number of schools from the Dove Valley area compete in various sporting events. The Netball Tournament was very well supported on March 27th, we hope that the same level of support will be evident at the Rounders on Monday June 21st, and the Athletics on Monday July 5th.
Once again we are coming towards the end of the school year, and thinking about next year. We have already seen a few changing faces this year, and are sorry to see Michelle Willets leave, but please to see Richard Jarvis join. Our AGM, at which the new committee will be elected, will be held during the first half term after the summer holiday, at a date to be confirmed. If you think you can contribute, either as a committee member, helper, or just to provide your support, you are very welcome to come along. Over the last few years, the annual accounts presented at the AGM have been audited for us by Steve Sanderson and Richard Minns, for which we are very grateful. However Steve and Richard want to step aside, and pass on to somebody new. Is there anybody out there reading this that would be prepared to act as an auditor for us? You don’t have to be an accountant, though an understanding of accounting practices would be a benefit. If you think you can help, please contact FOJORPS through the school office, through one of the committee members, talk to us at community day, or at the New Parents Evening.
Events for the next school year are already in preparation. Our next Children’s Disco will take place on Saturday 9th October. Following on from the success at our Quiz Night in March, where 18 teams competed for the honour of winning, our next Quiz Night is set for Saturday 16th October. If anybody can work out which round to play their Joker on, given the weird and wacky names generated by Mrs Snelling, they deserve to win, let alone being able to answer her questions!

Newsletter - Spring 2004
Things have been very busy over the last few months for FOJORPS, both in raising funds for the school, and in spending those hard earned funds for the benefit of the children at the school.
At the end of the last academic year, we completed an ‘Awards for All’ application from the National Lottery. This resulted in an award for over £4000 to install drinking fountains and a shaded area at the Sherborne site, both of which are now completed. These will be of great benefit to the Children during the warmer months in the Spring and Summer.
In addition, FOJORPS has funded the purchase of a new digital camera, a play road system marked out on the playground, a visit from a theatre company who put on Snow White for the Infants, and a forthcoming theatre visit for the Juniors where a theme of ‘The Greeks’ will be depicted.
Our Craft Fayre in November, followed by a couple of after school Christmas Bazaars in December raised over £800 – thanks to all who contributed or supported these events in any way.
By the time you read this, our Children’s Disco will have taken place on Saturday 7th February, and I’m sure will have been thoroughly enjoyed by all those who took part.
Our next event is the Quiz Night on Saturday March 20th 2004. Tickets for the quiz can be reserved through the School Office or through a Committee Member and cost £10.00 for a team of 4. A light supper is included, and a licensed bar available.
Preparations are already beginning for the annual Community Day event held on the playing field at the back of the Alderbrook site. If there is anything that you think you can contribute to the day, please contact a member of the FOJORPS committee, either directly, or through the school office. Community Day this year is set for Saturday 12th June. Please start praying now for good weather on the day!
