The 2014 season continues to go well for all four senior teams. The 1st XI are mid-table in Division One and the 2nd & 3rd XI’s are both near the top of their respective divisions, and hoping for promotion. After a good start to the season the 4th team have faltered a little but are looking to finish mid-table.
The 1st XI were eliminated from the National Village competition by Milford Hall, so no trip to Lords this year. They did however reach the final of the Marstons Smooth League Cup with the final against Quarndon CC at Staveley Welfare’s ground on Monday August 25th.
There is also a match against an MCC XI at The Willows on Thursday August 7th.
Our junior teams have all performed well again this season although there are unlikely to be any cups to put on show this season. Some of our juniors have also performed really well in our senior teams.
Work is now well under way on the development of a second cricket facility in the field adjacent to the current ground in Dovecliff Road. If all goes well it is hoped that the facility should be available for playing on in 2016. Any sponsorship or help towards this project would be most welcome.
You may have read or heard about the incident regarding one of our players – Ian Wakefield – who collapsed with heart failure recently while playing for our 2nd team. Ian was thankfully resuscitated by CPR and paramedics using a defibrillator. It’s good to report that Ian is now fit and well and looking forward to playing a few games before the end of the season. Amazing !
As a result of this incident we have organised a sponsored fund-raising event on August 10th – Wakey’s Wander – to raise funds to purchase a defibrillator for Rolleston Cricket Club.

The 2014 season has started and at the time of writing all four senior teams are performing well with, between them, only one defeat from 8 matches.
Although we have lost the services of our overseas player Scott Baker this season and regular first teamer Tom Rutter who has moved to Australia, we have secured the three very good new players in Tom Liversage, Muhammad Zaroob and James Ede.
1st and 2nd XI matches alternate at our main ground in Dovecliff Road with the 3rd and 4th XI’s sharing the ground at Jacks Lane, Marchington.
As well as senior League cricket we will be running junior teams at U-11 ( Kwik cricket and hard-ball ), U-13, U-15 and U-17 age groups plus friendly matches on Sundays. There are also several ‘Willower’ fixtures which give those who like to play, but maybe aren’t quite up to League standard, the opportunity to have a game.
We have entered the National Village Competition again this season with the possibility of several home matches should we keep progressing.
Our full fixture list is available on request from the Club pavilion.
Work should be beginning shortly on developing the field adjacent to the current ground. If all goes well it is hoped that the facility should be available for playing on in 2016.

Trevor Foster
What a poor performance by the England men’s cricket team in Australia, but we’ve had a good run and such things inevitably have to end - although perhaps not quite so quickly and dramatically. However, the England women showed they are made of sterner stuff by winning their equivalent Ashes (if only just ).
The 2014 cricket season will soon be with us, although pre-season ground
preparations at Rolleston and Marchington have been seriously hampered by the
amount of rain that has fallen already this year, and with the forecast saying
there is more to come it seems somewhat optimistic at the time of writing that
the season will start as scheduled on
Saturday April 19th.
Judging by early attendances at indoor nets everyone at Rolleston is keen to get going again and looking forward to another good season.
However, for various reasons we have lost three regular first team players this year including our overseas player, but it is hoped that suitable replacements will be found before the season starts. However, there will be no overseas player this season which could make it very challenging for our first team in Division One, where all other team have at least one such player.
A full list of fixtures will be available from the Club at the beginning of April.
We are again running four senior League teams on Saturdays plus Sunday and midweek friendly teams. Junior teams are run at U-11 ( Kwik cricket and hard-ball ), U-13, U-15 and U-17 levels, and there are coaching evenings at the ground in Rolleston during the season.
As some of you will know the Club is hoping to develop an adjacent field into a second cricket ground, but although planning application has been accepted, progress has been very slow. However, when things do get moving we will need to extend our changing room / Clubhouse facilities and any help anyone can give the Club in this respect, whether practical or financial would be very much appreciated.
