Autumn 2010 Newsletter
The season is now about three quarters gone, by the time you read this it will probably be almost over for another year.
Our first team has performed really well to date, and worries that we might struggle to survive in Division 1 of the Derbyshire County Cricket League without a professional or overseas player have definitely been proved wrong. Their performances under the captaincy of Alex Britton have been really encouraging and hopefully bode well for the future following the introduction to the higher level of Division 1 cricket of several young players.
Our second team has proved a bit of an enigma – looking good on paper, but failing to get results which means they are struggling to avoid relegation. Everything possible will be done to try to prevent this in the remaining matches.
Our third and fourth teams are both having a good season and look to be finishing in the top half of their respective divisions. The 4th team has been a great innovation at the Club giving many younger players from the under13s and under 15s the opportunity to play in senior cricket with guidance from experienced senior players in the team.
Our junior teams have had a mixed season, and we are always looking to attract younger cricketers of all ages to join us. If you, or anyone you know, are interested in joining us please contact the Club.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in running the Club, team captains, junior coaches, tea ladies and in particular Dave Woodburn and John Hodson for preparing the grounds at Rolleston and Marchington week in, week out, whatever the weather - it has not been easy with so many matches now being played at both grounds.
You do not have to be a player to join Rolleston Cricket Club – we do have social membership available.
For any further information about the Club check out our website at www.rollestoncc.org.uk or contact the Club secretary, Trevor Foster on 01283 812824.
