Winter 2015 News
We'll be taking a slight break from the normal format for our Christmas concert this year by devoting one half of the evening to a single work: A Christmas Cantata by the 20th-century British composer Geoffrey Bush, which is a setting for choir of 15 well-known carols and songs. It's a very tuneful and uplifting piece for the festive season. The rest of the evening will feature traditional hymns and carols as usual.
The concert will take place on Saturday 19th December, 7.30 pm at St Mary's Church, Rolleston. We hope to see lots of you there.
More details of ticket prices etc on posters nearer the time, or on our website: www.rollestonchoralsociety.co.uk

Autumn 2015 News
We had a very good audience for a rumbustious night of hits from the stage and screen - "Curtain Up!" - at the end of June. Our conductor was Jane Phinn, who has done a terrific job as our musical director for the past six months, proving - to paraphrase Rodgers and Hammerstein - that "There Is Nothing Like a Jane!"
For our autumn concert, Simon Lesley will return to the podium for a concert at St John's Church, Horninglow. The main works will be Haydn's Nelson Mass, and the Requiem by the 19th century English composer Robert Pearsall. This will take place on Saturday 17th October, at 7.30 pm. Details of ticket prices etc will be made known nearer the time.
New members are always welcome. Our new rehearsal venue is now the meeting room on the first floor of the Spread Eagle, and our practices are on Wednesday nights at 7.40 pm. We return from our summer break on Wednesday 26th August.

Summer 2015 News
If you are in the Spread Eagle on a Wednesday night, you may well hear angelic voices wafting down from above. Don't worry, it's not a strange by-product of a pint of Doombar or glass on Chardonnay, it's the result of our having found a new rehearsal space. Sadly, we have had to vacate the Methodist Chapel, which has been our home for the best part of 50 years. But the Spread Eagle Inn has generously come to our rescue, and so for the forseeable future we will be rehearsing in its upstairs meeting room.
Meanwhile, our next concert – under the conductorship of our acting musical director Jane Phinn – will be an evening of songs and choruses from the worlds of opera and musical theatre. This will be a light-hearted and tuneful evening – ideal for a summer night - with something to please everyone.
The concert will take place on Saturday 27th June, at 7.30 pm, at the Scout Headquarters, Station Road. More details of prices, tickets etc nearer the time. Please keep an eye out for our posters.
Meanwhile, we are always looking for new members, and you are welcome to join us. We meet on Wednesday evenings, at 7.30 pm at the Spread Eagle Inn.

Spring 2015 News
Our 50th anniversary year was one of our most successful yet, rounded off with another great evening, just before Christmas, with the children from John of Rolleston School. A huge thank you to everyone who came to our concerts and supported us in so many other ways.
For our next concert we will return to slightly more "traditional" repertoire. On Sunday 22nd March we will be joining the Church Choir at St Mary's for a performance of Sir John Stainer's Crucifixion, a work for Passiontide which some of you know well, and which includes a number of congregational hymns. We also plan to include an organ solo - and some other pieces by way of contrast. Our conductor on this occasion will be Jane Phinn, while our MD Simon Lesley takes a short sabbatical.
Tickets will cost £8 to include refreshments, and will be available nearer the time from Starbucks News and choir members.
Please look out for our posters, and come along and make our next 50 years as successful as the first 50!
