History of St Mary's Church Book Launch
Friday 26 September - St Mary’s Church, 7.30 pm.
A new book on the history of St Mary’s Church, priced £10, was launched on 26 September.
This is the first history of the Church to be published since Frank Slaney’s book forty-three years ago, and it is just a hundred years since Rev. Edwin Wardle’s book was printed. It includes previously unpublished photographs of the Church and Hall by the Mosley family as well as notes on the Mosleys.
The book, printed by Parker and Son (Printers) of Burton-on-Trent, and lavishly illustrated in full colour, would make an ideal present for anyone interested in the Church and in the village of Rolleston. All proceeds will go to St Mary’s Church, which is continuing an ambitious programme of restoration and improvement.
The author, Arnold Burston, gave a short talk to a packed audience before unveiling the book. Afterwards tea, coffee and a large selection of delicious WI treats and music from the organ kept everyone happy whilst they waited to have their books signed. About a hundred were sold in the first hour! Further copies are available from the Rectory, Starbucks or Arnold on 813457 .
Details on other publications with a village connection - including 'Family Memoirs by Sir Oswald Mosley' (reprinted 2003) can be found here.
